smartguy asked:
Its about 15 feet wide by 10 feet high. That would be 150 square feet. Would that be enough for a solar panel system that could power a house that uses about 15,000 watts a month. That about 500 watts a day.
solar panels for electricity
Solar Panels For Electricity.
A system that large will have a max power production of around 2000 watts.
I can’t say if it’s enough for your needs because the figures you gave don’t make sense. Here’s why:
The amount of power being consumed at a given time is measured in watts–that’s the power level. To measure how much electricity you use you use you have to use kilowatt-hours (or watt-hours, but its more convenient to use the former).
So–if you use 1 kilowatt-hour, that means you were consuming power at an average. rate of 1000 watts (one kilowatt) for 1 hour.
Now, it would be VERY unsual for a home to use 15,000 kilowatt-hours in a month–that’s a very high figure. Yor peak power usage might be 15,000 watts.
A solar panel system with a maximum capacity of 2000 watts isn’t enough to power most homes. You really need at least twice that–and a lot more if you want to go off the grid. But it could be a good investment anyway. You’d use almost all the capacity ad that woudlld maximize your savings.
How To Build Solar Panels For Home Use
You need to contact a contractor and get an estimate.
Solar Panel Electricity
The size of the panels needed to produce electricity are getting smaller all the time. When I got a quote for my system the price was about the same from all 3 companies, but the squarefootage required varied.
The size of the system is only part of the equation, the orientation of your roof, any thing that may create shade during part of the day etc.
To get an accurate quote contact a licenesed contractor and get a no cost, no obligation bid.
Solar Power Cheap
I found some good plans for solar and wind power stuff at The guy has actually made and built the systems, and basically you can save a bunch of cash by installing the systems yourself, of course he tells you all the calculations and supplies you will need to properly size your system. Not having to buy electricity from your REMC is a great feeling.
